Just the other day we had the same sort of incident with my mother.
Luckily, Paddington Bear is adorable.

Do you mean that your mother looked like Paddington Bear?
There was some discussion to that effect...
that sort of thing would never happen in California...where the beer flows like wine and you can wear flip-flops all year long
of course you must live in fear of the earthquakes, mudslides, and your state's inevitable declaration of bankruptcy... but no, no one will confuse you with Paddington Bear.
Not true! It was raining cats and dogs for a good straight week here and it was wretched! All the streets flood because they're not designed to handle rainfall and no one knows how to operate an umbrella, let alone drive when it's not sunny.
And then there were mudslides.
