By "fill two-thirds full" what they really meant was "fill half full; two-thirds for monster cupcakes."

Seem to have come out OK to me. These look flavored with something - I'd think bits of candy cane from the red bits on the surface, but it is no where near Christmas. On the other hand there are also little green bits showing, too.
Did you really bake these in December and just not tell us? And don't try to explain it by saying that you just got your film developed and forgot this picture was on the roll... That's not going to get very far.
Actually, the colored bits are like sprinkles in the batter. Pillsbury calls them "funfetti" which is silly but there it is. They dissolve into color when baked and are tasteless as far as I can tell. I hope this is evidence enough to prove that they were fresh out of the oven just yesterday!
There are only two possible messages. The first is an automatic response to the second and the second is an automatic response to the first. The first is, "Here I am, here I am, here I am." The second is, "So glad you are, so glad you are, so glad you are." (Kurt Vonnegut, The Sirens of Titan)

Good enough explanation for me :-)
This is why they need to be eaten immediately, to prevent them from becoming sentient.
