Don't knock it. That's the first line of A Wrinkle in Time...

PS OMG my passphrase is Moomens which is like Moomintrolls which is AWESOME.

The Moomintroll books are some of my absolute favorites.

As for that line, I actually think it's rather good. If only Bulwer-Lytton hadn't continued it and made it ten times the length with an inane description of how storms go, we wouldn't all laugh at it. But also, he did.

That was always Snoopy's favorite opening line, too, so it must have something to recommend it, although Snoopy never did seem to get past that particular point (at least any progress beyond that point was never disclosed by Mr. Schultz) and we never learned anything more about his writing – still, it was intriguing to ponder the possibilities of such a line – and, even in a comic strip, there are many possibilities, as I am certain the original author knew and understood to the fullest, but was, sadly, unable to truly express without excess – no doubt that was the undoing of his promising (OK, maybe not so much) literary career, and if you were to consider only that one line, you might say that he did spawn many a noble attempt to improve upon it – which would be difficult, no doubt – but some have succeeded through the dint of intense effort and concentration, a dictionary and thesaurus also being necessary tools to continue far beyond normal and rational boundaries of propriety, not that Snoopy ever did – being the most adorable and intelligent of dogs, and the only one I ever knew of to attempt the use of a typewriter, and that in itself would be quite a feet given that he had to use his pause.

:-)

Bulwer-Lytton would be so proud of this comment.
